What I eat in Mexico

Finally came back home from Yoga class!

Today I woke up 6am feeling super thursty so I went to get water bottle to the nearest convenience store called OXXO (オクソ)

Here in Mexico, water is not portable, so you need to buy it.

Every in the morning, I start my day by making a special tea with honey and Ginseng. My mum got me this Korean medicine so that my body gets healthy.

(I was hospitalized once in November and was also warned to be hospitalized again in December due to my health problem, which I will write later soon)

Yesterday I went to a huge supermarket, which was like Walmart or Target in the US. I got my FAVORITR Greek yogurt. I saw 8 different kinds so I got each of them right away haha This morning I tried one with strawberry jam and chia seed in it.

But sadly the yogurt was too sweet to me... I am excited to try everything but if they are too sweet, I will buy a plane one and eat it with some fruits

(By the way fruits here are super cheap -200g of mango was 60yen...)

This week I have been receiving some job trainings to get to know more about the University and study abroad system. I also followed my coworkers to a campus in a different city to encourage new students to go abroad.

There were many questions regarding financial situations and also taking a risk of one semester or a year off for study abroad. For the financial issue, I totally understood how students are worried about it. But there are many scholarships that can support your study abroad! I learnt today that I need to be always looking for some aids so that more and more students can benefit from them. Many students were also worried that study abroad would just be a waste of time. To me it is not the case. I learnt new languages, new culture, more about myself, and also got to know amazing people who I could not have met in Japan!

For lunch, I buy a Japanese bento box from Midori-sensei, who taught in the univeristy so many years and retired at her 70th last year. She said to me that she feels so much joy by cooking for many people! Her Japanese food has been my only decent food actually cus in the morning and at night I still cannot eat well ;(

If anyone in Guanajuato want Midori-sensei's Japanese lunch box, she sells them for 60 pesos ;)

今日のおかずは、

牛肉とセロリのカレー炒め

野菜サラダ

カリフラワーとブロッコリーのゴマドレッシングあえ

鶏肉の煮物

After my work today, I went to a yoga class! It was nice;) I came back home feeling super hungry so I boght an avocado for 11 peso/60yen. It would have costed nearly 200yen in Japan so I was so surprised! I love eating it with wasabi and soy sauce :p yummm

I speak 日本語, English, and Español. I was born and raised in Japan, but I have never really believed or felt comfortable that I was a Japanese. So, after high school, I went to California to discover who I am.

After graduating from Soka University of America, I worked for one year in Japan. However, I found myself feeling really difficult to get used to the work environment. So I asked around if there is any job opportunity, and I found out about this job.

(This is an entrance of the university of Guanajuato )

I arrived in Guanajuato, Mexico on 5/20/2018. My friend came to BJX, a local airport in Leon to pick me up. From Japan, I had to choose to make a stopover either in the US or in Mexico city to Leon. The lfight was total 14hours so I was really tired. But more than that I was happy to be back.

Back in 2014, I was doing an internship at the International Office of Guanajuato University. I stayed for 3 months to support some summer research projects and exchange programs. This January, I contacted my boss in the office to see if there is any job opportunity available. Luckily there was a position available!

(It´s good to ask even though there might be no information available in the website!)

It was a difficult decision to leave my family in Japan. However, I was always hoping to use and brush up my language skills in an international work environment. And also I wanted to share my experience of doing study abroad and living in different countries with many people. So after a few months of considerations and struggles, I finally left Japan. again...

Maybe I explain what I do as a study abroad coordinator. Basically, I support students and professors who are coming to and leaving from Guanajuato University for their study abroad, research projects, etc... It´s an office work, but I get to meet many studets from abroad and Mexico face to face. I can encourage young people to go to study abroad. Also, there will be job trips in Mexico and abroad.

I am really excited for my new job and life in Mexico. I will keep you updates.

Ciao
